Fishing and a lovely day on a deserted beach.

Two weekends ago Adventure Antigua sent a team and one of our boats to the annual Antigua Sport Fishing Tournament. Team Xtreme was fishing in the Marlin division. We had a very good team and were well prepared. In fact we managed to catch and release the first blue marlin of the event which later earned our angler Guilli, the prize for Champion Male Angler. That’s how slow it was! The winning boat caught and released three blue marlin and that boat was none other than my Dad’s Blue Rapid. John Fuller was once again the champion captain and since this was not the first time he’s won this….. he isn’t letting anyone forget it.

On the last day we managed to catch a big yellowfin tuna and figured that at 78 pounds this would earn the biggest tuna prize. In all but two years of the past 46 annual fishing tournaments we would have won the biggest tuna prize, but this year there was something different about to hit the scales. A boat from Guadeloupe brought in one that was over 176 lbs which smashed the record and of course our chances of winning a prize.

The reason we won the champion male angler prize was that the only person who caught more than one marlin was a junior. Winning the prize on a technical didn’t make Guilli any less proud and he happily wears his new maui jim sunglasses regardless. Guilli tied with many other male anglers who also released one blue marlin but he released his first and won the tie breaker.

After the tournament Monday was a public holiday and we packed some family and friends on to my boat and to dad’s boat and went to a deserted beach for lunch. The weather was beautiful as you can see in the photos.
